Rolling Stone Magazine
Jann S. Wenner dropped out of college in 1967 from the
University of California Berkley. He wanted to start a rock music
magazine. He then borrowed $7,500 from
his friends and family to get his magazine off the ground. November 9, 1967 was
the first issue cover date. Wenner wrote what his magazine was, "is not just about the
music, but about the things and attitudes that music embraces."
In
the 1970’s Rolling Stone begin to add political coverage. Hunter S. Thompson
was incharge of the pollitical section until his death in 2005. Rolling Stone
has helped launched many careers: Cameron Crowe, Lester Bangs, Joe Klein, Jow Eszterhas, Patti
Smith, and P.J. O’Rourke. In the 1980’s the magazine begin to shift as
“Entertainment” magazine with increasing coverage on movies, television, and
celebrities. The prined format has been through several changes.
