Week 4 EOC: McDonald's response to Supersize me

Morgan Spurlock created a document called “Super Size Me”.  Spurlock conducted an experiment to eat only McDonald’s for an entire month breakfast, lunch, and dinner.  Spurlock experiences some surprising side effects. He becomes depressed and lethargic between meals, but feels really good when he's eating. The doctor tells him this describes an addiction. Spurlock gained weight, his cholesterol increases sharply, and he suffers severe liver damage. In the last few days, the doctor tells him that his liver resembles an alcoholic's and if he continues the diet much longer, it could entirely wipe out his liver.
McDonald’s has called the documentary “a super-sized distortion of the quality, choice and variety available at McDonald’s.” It says the film is not about McDonald’s but about Spurlock’s decision to act irresponsibly by eating 5,000 calories a day — “a gimmick to make a film.”
The following is statement from McDonald's director of Worldwide Nutrition, Dr. Cathy Kapica:

She says, "As a registered nutritionist, I was extremely disappointed when I saw this movie. Here was an opportunity to actually provide insights into a serious problem. In fact, all it turned out to be was an extreme stunt where someone engaged in irresponsible behavior of eating twice as much as they should every day, limiting physical activity. It was a complete disservice to anyone looking for factual information or real solutions."

“Eat Smart, Be Active”  is part of the new move at McDonald’s.  In this part McDonald’s has removed the super sizes from its’ menu.  McDonalds’s have now added entrée salads and had a great success with that.  McDonalds’s have now added fruits, vegetables, and yogurt options as well now to their menus.  In the McDonald’s Happy Meals, McDonald’s has now offered other options to substitute French fries and drinks to apples and milk.
